BURGLARS’ GOOD HAUL
MONEY AND GOODS STOLEN CAR VISITS TONGAPORUTU ( Special to Tl-IB SUN) TONGAPORUTU, Today. Burglars paid a visit to Tongaporutu, near Mokau, last week, and stole money and goods from three of the residents. At Dunbar’s general store and post office an unsuccessful effort to gain entry was made by removing the putty from a window, but finally the hack window was reproved bodily, and the thief or thieves got inside. A quantity of clothing, hats, tinned fish, biscuits, and cigarettes were taken, and between £S and £lO was removed from the tills. The safe in the post office was not touched, and the mail was not interfered with. A battery was removed from Mr. W. Lovell’s garage; and extensive damage was done to his car. Mr. B. Gibbs’s garage w'as also broken into, and the benzine tank of the car emptied, and tools stolen. The stolen battery was evidently used to replace one in the thieves’ ear, as the old battery was found at Mokau, nine miles away.
