Wrackler Wins

A SPLENDID PERFORMANCE Good Trotting at Oamaru (Special to the sus) OAMAKL. Saturday. ANY doubts as to Wrackler's right to be considered the champion three-year-old of the season were quickly dispelled at Oamaru today, where Mr. 11. F. Xicoll's sturdy young pacer defeated a good field iu the big event. Capably handled by “Morry” Holmes, Wrackler won decisively, tramping the two miles in the excellent time of 4.1)2 2-b.

Ideal climatic conditions prevailed j for the Oamaru Trotting Club’s winter fixture today, attracting a large attendance. The track was in excellent order and fast times were the order of the day, handicaps in many cases being severely fractured. The totalisator handled £22.438 for the day, an increase of £759 on last winter fixture, when the figures were £21,679. King Oscar Steals March The Bonne Fille —Nelson Prince bracket was made a much better favourite than Manhattan in the Innovation Handicap. Iving Oscar went away smartly and soon established a break of some 20 lengths, giving the others no chance of overhauling him in the run to tin* judge. His margin of safety at the finish from Ambition was six lengths, with Tot Logan three lengths away. The race was not in the nature of a hair-raiser, and Iving Oscar was lucky at the outset, as even with his big lead the Roger Wood gelding put in some breaks. The three-year-old Ambition trotted solidly throughout, and earned more laurels against the seasoned horses in this respect. Nelson Parrish, Nancy McKinney and Sunspeck were next. Hooper Leads Them Home Although she experienced an excellent run throughout the Advance Handicap, the favourite, Nell de Beau, could make no impression on tli© place fillers in the straight, and was beaten into fourth place. Lady Oran and Becky de Oro were in the van for a time, and then Kate Logan took command to lead into the straight from Imperial Logan, Myra Locanda, Monypole and Nell de Beau. The leader was done with a furlong from home, and in a hard finish Myra Locanda (O. E. Hooper) got the verdict by a head from Imperial Logan, with Monopole three lengths further back. Then came Nell de Beau and Kate Logan. Wrackler a Warm Favourite. Wrackler, £SS2, carried the confidence of backers in the President’s Handicap, Linkman, £399, being the next in order, of favouritism. The start was 0.k., and M. B. Edwards took Neerson to the front from Avenger, Shadowland, and Evelyn Locanda, while Wrackler was another that lost no time on the mark, being close up behind the leaders at the stand. Round the back the last time, M. Holmes went past Evelyn Locanda with Wrackler, and was thereafter never troubled to win easily by three lengths from Linkman, who cam© from a long way back, to beat Evelyn Locanda by two lengths. Then came Jolly Chimes, Hundas Boy, Avenger, and Shadowland. Mr. H. F. Nicholl’s horse removed all doubts about the three-year-old supremacy, and made an exhibition of an excellent field of stayers. Linkman was not prominent until half a mile from home, and although he bored out badly in the straight, he stayed too well for Evelyn Locanda. Jolly Chimes ran a fine race, his position at the finish holding out good promise for next month. Another Favourite Scores Return Voyage, a hot favourite, was one too many for the opposition in the Papakaio Handicap, winning very easily by three lengths from Imperial Thorpe, who was a similar distance in front of Imperial Logan, with Red Shiner, Great Ando, and Suncross next. Return Voyage has improved considerably since last raced. He is by Happy Voyage out of Pearl Pointer, and is trained by J. Henderson at Oamaru, and looks like doing well over two miles. Jock Henderson had experienced anything but a good run before the metropolitan autumn meeting, but his present team should do a lot more service this season. Imperial Thorp© is useful with the weight on top, but Imperial Logan faded out after having every chance. Dipnoi Springs Surprise

The hot favourite, Admiral Bingen, failed to see out the business end of j two miles in the Waikaura Handicap, j Nelson Prince and Great Nelson were j prominent shortly after the start, but j both broke early, and were never dangerous afterwards. Tot Logan, Boneta, Dillon S., and Admiral Bingen were having a lot to say with a mile to go, but round the back Dipnoi outpaced everything, and soon held an appreciable advantage from Tot Logan and Admiral Bingen. The Ballin trotter was not extended in the run home, getting to the end of the journey with five lengths to spare from Tot Logan, who was six lengths ahead of Repute.' In a bunch after the placed horses came Midland, Western Voyage, and Boneta. More Galloping Dipnoi broke at the far turn, and galloped for some distance without losing any ground. For the oversight of not making a strenuous endeavour to pull his horse back to the correct gait, Dipnoi’s driver, D. Barron, was lined £5. The winner has a lot of speed, and is a remarkably good stayer. Evelyn Locanda Beats Dilworth. The Nelson-trained Dilworth was backed to the extent of £709 in the Enfield Handicap, next in order being Rey Logan, £329. The favourite put up a capital performance considering her Cup outing. She led into the straight, but was visibly tiring a long way from home, but she fought out every yard of a powerful finish with rare determination. However, Evelyn Locanda got up in time to head her by a neck, with Marinca a similar distance away. The only other to make any impression was Stormbell, who was leading a mile from home. Evelyn Locanda showed a great turn of speed over the last furlong, and it is evident that she benefited by her Dunedin outings. Wild Nita’s Dash j Sir Author, a five-year-old stallion |by Author Dillon —Millie C. (dam of i Acron) was made a better favourite than the Tahoe —Editor bracket for the i Stewards’ Handicap, but backers were

astray in their estimation on this occasion. Editor went out to win from end to end. but when challenged bv Wild Xita a furlong from home, Vie failed to stave off the run of the Logan Pointer mare who got the verdict by a. head, with Sunbell three lengths away. Lady Cello showed a lot of speed to get into fourth place. Always enjoyed a big private reputation. and to step 3.2 S 1-5 from the mark justifies it. He ranks as a four-year-old by Author Dillon from a General Lyons mare, and is trained at Ashburton bj W. Houston. Wild | Xita is also a very promising sort, and ! she was just a bit too seasoned f..r Editor. Logan Hanlon Goes Fast Imperial Thorp© was backed as though a certainty for the Electric Handicap, and the Our Thorpe mare did look a winner a furlong from home, but then Logan Hanlon came along in such brilliant fashion, that lie got up to pip the favourite by ;l head on the post, with JStormbcll three lengths away. Author Jinks put up another line performance in running fourth from 96yds behind. Glen Farg and Xelson Kay had every chance, but found the opposition a bit too good on the day. Logan Hanlon put up a tine performance, finishing as straight as an arrow’ under pressure, and registering 2.12 2-5. He had been consistent without much luck until today.
