THREE horses met their fate at Wanga nui on Saturday. Puwhero broke a fetlock 50yds after clearing the brush going out of the straight in the Grandstand Steeplechase, th’ough he may have ricked it on landing. He jumped the hencoop near the five furlongs, but was pulled up and later destroyed. In the Empire Handicap Dayguard faltered crossing the top and pulled up lame, it being found that the ligaments of one leg were so severely strained that the friendly bullet was necessary. In the last race Millais, was seen to falter after gc#ig a furlong and was pulled up before reaching the three furlong post. The veterinary surgeon ordered the destruction. Millais’s fate was very unfortunate for Mr. Cecil Louisson, who purchased the Leighton gelding last Tuesday for 225gns from Mr. Frank Ormond.
