OAMARU FIXTURE

WRACKLER’S AMBITION TO WIN TWO MILE HANDICAP LARGE FIELDS TOMORROW r THE dual Derby winner, Wrackler, will have another oppor- * tunity tomorrow to attempt to notch a victory over two miles, when he tackles a field of good performers in the principal event on- the Oamaru card. If he fails in the essay, the three-year-old is later engaged in a ten-furlong heat. A review of the various fields is appended by “Abaydos.”

The popularity of trotting as a winter sport is further demonstrated oy the excellent acceptances received - for the Oamaru Club s fixture, which takes place tomorrow. The response trom owners has been on such a liberal scale that a record in this respect lias been constituted, which is testimony to the able manner in which Handicapper IT. A. Jarden lias carried out his duties. Chance For Wrackler .Tlio crack three-year-old pacer \\ rackler, who, despite several efforts, has not yet ‘ taken out” a first certificate in a two-mile handicap, will ! make another attempt to break the ice i and if the youngster is at his best he I should go close to reaching the evident i ambition of his owner, Mr. TI. F. Nicoll. ! The son of Wrack has put up a couple [ ot sterling performances over the ! , lengthy journey, suffering two narrow 1 I defeats at the hands of such good ones as Torpedo Huon and Author Jinks. : Tomorrow’s field is a tough one, and recent winners in Evelyn Locanda, Dilworth and Linkman will make the ' youngsters' task extremely difficult, while Omaha, who has often been in j the money at this distance will offer ! strong resistance. With such large fields, many of the : competitors appear in more than one [ event, presenting trouble to stay-at- J home backers, while for those present j the task of solving the various problems is not by any means easy. Good class is represented throughout the card, and there is every promise of interesting and exciting sport. innovation Trot Of the big front contingent, Bonnie Fille. who made a creditable showing at Dunedin, will be most in demand, but Manhattan, Nancy McKinney and Ambition have chances. Sunspect is consistent, while if Great Way went right he should get some money. Kitty Patch is a possibility, while further back Nelson Prince, Wee Patch, Sid Wilkes, Tot Logan, and Admiral Bingen will not lack friends. When straightened out betting may favour Sunspeck and Admiral Bingen. Advance Handicap The majority in this Improvers’ heat are off the front and there will probably be a rush for the promising two-year-old Grand Canyon, who is said

to be a classy youngster. Kate Logan and Alinont Cling are another pair with prospects, but just behind is Key Child and Adrgour, both of whom can pull out a good effort. The latter will be hard to dispose of, while Monopole and Cuddles will have friends. Nell de Beau won well at Forburv Park may share honours with Ardfour (if he starts), but, if absent, Grand Canyon will be in demand. President’s Handicap The field is a particularly good one, and off the front Evelyn Locanda, providing the going is firm, will have a royal show. Neerson is a tough customer, and the Shadowland—Lingfield bracket will come in for good support. Dilworth is a great filly, but the distance may trouble her, and she should be better suited in a later race. Avenger is always liable to upset calculations, and Desert Star is solid. Wrackler is sure to go a sound race, and will put up a hard fight. So will Linkman, whose recent form at Haw era and Ashburton stamped him as a real good on©. Omaha will trouble the best of them, and it will not be surprising

to seo the Harold Dillon gelding get a slice of the prize-money. Billy Sea is on a handy mark, and will be troublesome, while further back Huon Denver (if ready) and Dundas Boy must have a chance. The public wiil no doubt want Wrackler and Linkman. Papakaio Handicap This race is for those who like the weight on top, and the field is a solid one. Of the limit brigade Suncross should do well, while Return Voyage

and Rap are nicely placed. The latter is a consistent customer. Willie Wilkes, Lady Bee, Wehr Bingen. Lough Neagh and Imperial Thorpe have some win- ; ning form to recommend them, the latter showing up prominently in Southland. Heroic and Jofin Dee are a useful pair, but fancies may be Imperial Thorpe and Rap. Waikaura Trot Some useful square-gaiters will contest this two-mil© event, and of the limit lot Tot Logan, Admiral Bingen, Silurian and Great Nelson will command respect. The latter is a great youngster, and won on Saturday at Dunedin in a fashion that suggests he will stay on. Boneta is overdue, and Midland can go solidly and may effect another surprise. Peter Lin does not race often, but usually gets some money. while Repute, liawkesbury Pride and Dipnoi should add interest to the race. Great Nelson, if started, will be favourite, but, if absent, Midland and Peter Lin will find favour. Enfield Handicap Some smart pacers are engaged here and the front lot includes Logan Hanlon, Evelyn Locanda, Neerson, Avenger and Sunchild, and the former's consistency will gain him a host of friends. Dilworth can go a merry ten furlongs, Rey Logan is about reads*, and Omaha will be a nuisance. Wrackler may have enough in the two-mile go, but Hector’s Own must not be overlooked. Downcast and Trimmer showed a return to form last week. Jolly Chimes can step this journey smartly. The public will probably go for Dilworth and Logan Hanlon. Stewards’ Handicap This field will puzzle backers, and with, some slippery ones on the end, favourites may come from here. Editor is useful, while the two-year-old Ngingo-Ngingo is one that will keep the older horses busy. Ardgour, if reserved, will be in demand, and Tahoe is showing signs of an early victory. Le Thorpe and Wild Nita are good sorts, and further back Rollo, Rap, Asset, Black Wattle and Sir Author will be treated with respect. If the track suits Bryce will start NgingoNgingo, who should be the elect, but, if missing, Editor and Tahoe will have many friends. Electric Handicap The final heat, saddle, has an interesting field, and the contest should be exciting. Many of the runners have recent form to recommend them, while the majority will be seen out earlier, and a line will be placed on their prospects in this race. Of the limit contingent. Nelson Fay, after his Forbury Park essays will appeal most, but on the next mark is Shadowland. Mavis Wood. Rita McKinney, Slump and Logan Hanlon, all capable of a good effort with weight on top. inca, Our Bird and Sunchild are recent winners, while right at the back is the little wonder Author Jinks, who, if asked to take it on may occupy pride of place. Failing him. Nelson Fay and Slump will be in demand.
