TAXI-OWNERS PROTEST

MOTOR TAX TOO HIGH Press Association WELLINGTON, Wednesday. The Minister of Transport, the Hon. W. A. Veitch, today received a deputation from the Wellington taxi-cab proprietors, who pointed out the anomalies existing as between the various centres in connection with the heavy vehicle tax, and sought relief from the heavy burden that the Wellington proprietors in particular are alleged to be carrying. In replying the Minister said the Transport Board was working very hard on the whole problem of motor taxation. He hoped to be able to afford some temporary measure of relief, but he could not make a statement at present. ITe recognised that there were anomalies, and that their burden was heavy.
