MR. ALDRIDGE'S POSITION
HARBOUR BOARD APPOINTMENT NEVER LIFTED A FINGER “I never spoke a word, lifted a finger, or spent a penny stamp over the question.” Titus Mr. E. Aldridge explained fils position as Government nominee on tfie Auckland Harbour Board yesterday, at tfie first meeting of tfie newlyelected and appointed body. At the last meeting of tfie late board the Hon. E. W. Alison referred to tfie manner in which fits appointment had been terminated. He thought it regrettable that the Government had not notified him until tfie day after tfie last date on which recommendations for the appointment were receivable in Wellington. Tfie notification, fie said, was in tfie form of a brief telegram from the Secretary of the Marine Department. Mr. Aldridge said that when he was approached in tfie first place he had intimated that he was not prepared to accept nomination, but on being informed that Mr. Alison would not be appointed in any event fie eventually accepted appointment.
