MANUREWA TOWN BOARD

Following a notice of motion by Mr. G. Osborne at last evening’s meeting of the Manurewa Town Board, it was agreed to rescind the present by-law relating to the erection of buildings in the brick area, which includes buildings within a quarter of a mile of the post office, Manurewa, and Hornai railway statiojis, and to provide that any shops, public garages, and public buildings erected within the town board district must be of permanent material. On the proposal of Mr. Ferguson, it was decided to substitute a general works committee, consisting of the whole board, in place of the northern and southern works committees at present functioning. The secretary of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce advised that his chamber had agreed to support the proposal urging early completion of the duplication of the railway line between Papatoetoe and Papakura. Permission to use Jellieoe Park free of charge was granted the Manurewa Women’s Hockey Club. In response to a request from the clerk for a payment of £5 bv the Rugby Union Club for the use of Jellieoe Park, the secretary asked the board to reconsider its decision, and offered to pay 25 per cent, of the collections taken up on the ground. The town clerk was instructed to reply that th© secretary of the club should apply to the Auckland Rugby Union for financial assistance to meet its obligations.
