CANDIDATES FOR HONOURS

Mr. Potter Unopposed for Mt. Eden

Nominations closed at noon to-day for the positions of Mayors and councillors for the Mount Eden and Mount Albert boroughs. Mr. E. H. Potter is returned unopposed as Mayor of Mount Eden, but there will be a contest at Mount Albert. In two of the Mount Albert wards no election of councillors will be necessary, but the electors in these wards will have to vote on the Mayoralty issue. The nominations are :

I) Ward (two vacancies): Messrs. 11. L. Kayes and J. Taylor. HARBOUR BOARD In the main the Harbour Board will be re-elected on May 1. The board hen 15 members, of whom one is a Government appointee. The city provides five. North Shore boroughs one, Newmarket'. Onehunga and contiguous local bodies one, ML Eden and Mt. Albert one, Franklin ani Manukau one, and the Hamilton area one. Payers of ships' dues elect twD, and payers of other dues one. All these will be subject to the election except the Government nominee, whose term expires this month. One' representative each from the Waikato counties and Waitemata and Mt. Roskill combined will also require to be elected almost immediately, their terms expiring in May. HOSPITAL BOARD The city provides five of the 12 members of the Hospital Board, Newmarket and Onehunga and contiguous local bodies two, North Shore boroughs one, Franklin area one, Manukau County and internal bodies *one, Waitemata County and internal bodies one, and the remaining local bodies in the old Eden County one. Not all of these are elected at one time. Town boards elect their representatives at the same time as their own board, and a result of this has just been discovered in that Mr. M. J. Coyle, who has just retired from the Hospital Board, should have retired a year ago, the returning officer for his area overlooking the fact. Mr. W. K. Howitt has been returned nnopposed as representing the North Shore boroughs. The Rev. W. C. Ward, of Otahuhu, has been nominated for the Manukau County area. NORTHCOTE Nominations for the positions of Mayor and councillors of the Northcote Borough Council close at noon to-mor-row. In addition to the eight members of toe retiring council, who have intimated their intention of seeking reelection, the following have signified that they will offer their services: Messrs. P. Cross, A. Facer. C. W. J. Taylor and H. V. George. Further nominations may be forthcoming. Mr. J. B. Tonar has also announced K* n^e , n^on °f contesting the seat on the Waitemata Power Board as Northcote representative, in opposition to the sitting member, Mr. A. E. Ureenslade, Mayor of Northcote. Sixteen candidates are offering for 12 seats on the borough council. There are three nominations for the one seat on the Southland Power Board, and two for the seat on the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. Mr. A. H. Aitken has been returned unopposed to the Bluff Harbour Board.
