One of the boldest daylight hold-ups in the Police Department’s memory occurred to-day, when five bandits armed witfii revolvers and sawed-off shotguns intercepted a taxicab and peppered it with shots, shooting a policeman through the head and a pay-roll guard less seriously. The bandits escaped in an automobile with the £7,678 pay-roll of the Bell Telephone Company, near whose offices in New York City the robbery occurred.
