COMMITTEE REPORTS

MEADOWBANK SCHOOL The report shows that a considerable amount of progress has been made. During the past school year the progress of the pupils was satisfactory. After completion of the infant school the committee embarked on a lengthy programme of improvement works, including the construction of a footbridge across the gully between the two sections of the school. A total of 250 trees was planted in the grounds and the main school grounds and paths had been completely repaired and tarcoated. BIRKDALE SCHOOL The inspectors’ reports reflect great credit on the staff and pupils in general efficiency, discipline and tone. Ex-

cept in the case of two of the lower standards, accommodation was satisfactory. The grounds presented a good appearance, but a certain amount of levelling work was necessary. NORTHCOTE SCHOOL The chairman’s report shows that the attendance has decreased slightly. The financial statement showed that there was a credit balance of 13s Bd. At that date £6B in subsidy monies was in the hands of the Education Board, but that amount had since been credited to the committee’s account. A small plot of ground had been prepared and made available for flower cultivation and Nature study. Two public appeals had resulted in the raising of £l3 15s 6d. Considerable ground improvements had been effected. OTAHUHU SCHOOL A year of steady progress is shown by the report. Otahuhu School is one of the largest in the province. A dental clinic had been established and would shortly be officially opened. An adequate sports ground had been provided for senior pupils. An additional area of half an acre had been purchased for the infant department, the Education Department subsidising the cost £1 for £l. The inspector’s report was such as to reflect great credit on the headmaster and staff. During the year £149 had been raised by local contribution, there being a balance in the bank of £SB. ONEHUNGA SCHOOL Good health among the children and satisfactory attendances are reported. Compulsory fire-drill had been taken up enthusiastically by the children. By means of a Paddy’s market the necesssary funds had been raised for a dental clinic.
