N.Z. STOCK MARKETS AMPLE BEEF SUPPLIES

Prices in all sections of the live stock markets throughout New Zealand yesterday held very firm at late rates. The market tor fat cattle, generally, continues to hold on levels slightly above the export parity. IN the 'Westfield yards yesterday an average entry of steers contained a big percentage of good quality medium-weight cattle, drawn from most parts of the province. Waikato graziers were again responsible for some of the choicest quality, but Bay of Plenty and North Auckland graziers also had lines of good quality steers forward. One of the best lines of the day came from G. Vosper’s Cambridge property. A line of choice quality Wliakatane cattle offered on account of T. Mitchell made up to £l6. Although the greater part of the yarding of cows and heifers was drawn from the dairy herds of the district, some very choice lines of beef breeds were included in the offering. Wellfinished, heavy prime young cows, on account of Worsp Bros., Wlmngarei, made up to £l2 10s; a line of choice prime medium-framed cattle on account of W. Thompson, W'hakatane, averaged £lO 10s. The Matarawa Land Company, Putaruru, was responsible for one of the choicest quality lines of young Polled Angus cows and heifers seen in the yards for several weeks. The line met with keen competition up to £l3 15s, the top-priced pen going to J. Rowe, Newmarket. Good Quality Sheep Offering An average yarding of fat sheep contained some of the choicest quality wethers seen in the yards for some weeks. Mrs. M. Black, Opotiki. as usual when this vendor has stock forward, topped the market for both ewes and wethers. One of the choicest quality lines of wethers in the. yards came from Sutton and Sutton, Otahuhu, the line meeting with keen competition at up to 37s 3d. F. D. Parsons was the buyer. A line of extra choice quality medium-framed twotooth wethers on account of J. S. Fitch, Drurj\ went to R. and W. Hellaby, Ltd., for 345. Heavy prime wethers on account of J. C. Drongill. Tuakau, made to 365. Stortford Lodge Market In the Stortford Lodge, Hastings, yards yesterday there was a small yarding of tat cattle, but a heavy yarding of stores. Fat and store sheep made up more than an average yarding. There was a representative attendance of buyers and values were sustained at late rates. Fat bullocks made up to £ls 7s Gd; fat cows, to £10; vealers, to £2 5s Gd; ISmonths to 2-year steers, to £S lls; Polled Angus and Hereford cows, in calf, to £9 2s 6d; 3 and 4-year steers, to £ll 12s Gd 6: empty cows, to £6 GISs; dairy heifers, to £7; dairy cows, to £10; weaner steers, to £2 19s; fat wethers, to 32s 7d; fat ewes, to 265; fat down 2-tooths, to 31s 6d; 2, 4 and 6-tooth wethers, to 30s 3d; woolly wether lambs, to 24s Gd: woolly ewe lambs, to 245; sound-mouthed ewes, in lamb, to 29s 3d; forward ewes, to 23s 7d: shorn lambs to 19s lid; fat lambs, to 28s. Johnsonville Market Steady To the usual attendance of buyers in the Johnsonville yards yesterday, an average yarding of sheep, lambs, and cattle came forward. The quality of the cattle was not up to the usual standard, but a good sale resulted at prices on a par with last week’s rates. The sheep were mostly good quality and the. prices realised may also be quoted at last week’s parity. Bullocks made £l3 to £ls; extra heavy, to £l6; heavy, to £ls 10s; cows, £lO to £11: vealers, light., £2 L7s Gd to £4 15s; wethers. 30s to 34s 4d: ewes. 22s to £2 Gs; lambs. 23s to 25s Gd. Heavy Entries At Addington Heavy entries were registered in all sections in the Addington yards yesterday. The store sheep sections contained a big entry of ewes, and store lambs were also forward in heavy numbers. For both classes there was a good free sale at prices varying from Is to Is Gd a head better than last week. Fat sheep comprised the biggest entry of the season, sale prices being practically unchanged. Good class fat cattle also maintained last week’s rates, but secondary sorts were harder to quit. These prices are equivalent to 42s Gd to 45s per 1001 b for good beef, extra quality, to 475: medium, 40s to 425; best cow beef and medium heifer 37s to 40s; heavy and plain cow beef, 31s to 355; rough, down to 27s 6d. MINING NEWS OHIN EM URl. —The manager reports:— North section, No. 4 level: The drive on the Canioola reef has been extended from 152 feet to 184 feet south of No. 2 winze. Ten feet of sulphide ore on the footwall is high grade. The liangingwall has not been exposed. A connection with No. 3 level by means of No. 1 winze has been effected. The western crosscut 50ft south of No. 1 winze has been extended from 71 feet to 100 feet. The Silver Queen reef should be intersected in another 50 feet of driving. The country is favourable and several leaders recently penetrated disclosed sulphide ore. South section, No. 3 lev 1: The drive south of the main rise is along IGS feet, through hard quartz containing sporadic values. The drive has now been carried toward the banglngw.tll, where the grade of ore is more regular. The remodelling of the mill and install-.-tion of plant are proceeding exp« ».itiously. The erection of the biidges on the tramline is in hand.
