UNIVERSITY FINANCE
REVIVAL OF DISCUSSION DEPUTATION TO MINISTER (From Our Resident Reporter) WELLINGTON, To-day. The vexed question of university finance is once more before the Hon. H. Atmore, Minister of Education. Legislation in the last session of the Coates Government reduced the annual grant to the University of New Zealand and left their finances in a precarious position. It was pointed out at the time that unless additional money was given, the revenue from the matriculation examinations apparently being intended to go to the University Entrance Board, some curtailment of scholarships would have to be made. When representations were made to the Minister he promised to consider the question after March 31, the end of the university’s financial year. Now the university has written to Mr. Atmore, asking him to receive a deputation to place the position before him.
