“IDEALS OF MUSICIANS”
RECEPTION TO MR. ARTHUR HIRST Last evening a reception was given to Mr. Arthur Hirst, the famous pianist and music lecturer, who is visiting New Zealand. The reception was held in Lewis Eady's Hall. Queen Street, and many people came to meet Mr. Hirst. He was introduced by Dr. K. S. Phillips, and then spoke on “The Ideals and Opportunities of Musicians.” He characterised music as the noblest of all the professions, and emphasised the importance of inculcating spirit and “soul” into the pupils’ playing. Mr. Hirst will give a recital and lecture in the Town Hall Concent Chamber this evening.
