VICE REGAL VISIT
GOVERNOR-GENERAL AT WHANGAREI
ADDRESS TO FREEMASONS (From Our Own Correspondent) WHANGAREI, Sunday. The Governor-General Sir Charles Fergusson, Lady Alice Fergusson, and the Countess Thelma Metaxa, accompanied by Captain On* Ewing, arrived from Auckland yesterday and were met by Mr. A. J. Murdoch, M.P., and Mr. L. J. Brake, Mayor of Whangarei. To-day their Excellencies and party visited Waipu, where they attended divine service at the Presbyterian Church in the morning, and were entertained at luncheon by the Rev. G. W. Blair and Mrs. Blair at the manse. His Excellency then attended a meeting of the Lodge Waipu, and afterwards the party was present at a Masonic service in the Waipu Hall. Sir Charles gave an address on the ethics of Masonry, which was heard by an audience of over 1,000. The function was easily the largest of this nature held in the north, members of the Masonic craft coming from as far afield as Kaitaia. The Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates and Mrs. Coates were among those present. After the service the vice-regal party was entertained at afternoon tea by members of the Lodge Waipu. Their Excellencies later met old settlers of the district and returned to Whangarei. They will leave Whangarei for Auckland, at 8.15 to-mor-row morning.
