OTAHUHU CLUB Despite the unfavourable weather conditions prevailing on Saturday afternoon, there was a good attendance of members and visitors at the official opening for the season of the Otahuhu Golf Club. Mr. S. W. House, president of the club, extended a hearty welcome to the visitors, and called on Miss M. Cutforth, ladies’ captain, to drive the first ball. A twelve-hole mixed foursomes match was played. Miss Parton and H. Levy handed in the best card, 59—11, 48. Run-ners-up were Miss N. Mellsop and A. F. Burnett, 64—14, 50. HOCKEY IN THE PROVINCE TAURANGA ASSOCIATION (From Our Own Correspondent) TAURANGA, To-day. The Tauranga Hockey Association. Avhich met on Friday evening, decided to open the season next Wednesday with a fancy costume seven-a-side tournament, in which it is anticipated that about a dozen teams will compete. The following week the men’s competition for the Innes Cup and the women’s competition for the Harris Cup will commence. During the season competitions will be played for the Press Cup, the Butler Cup and the Kent Cup, all for men’s teams. The women’s teams will play competitions for Buttons and the Randle Cup. The schoolboys’ competitions wall be for Merryweather and Jordan Cups. The various clubs under the association have held their annual meetings and officers have been elected. A new team of native players will take part in the women’s competition, making six women’s teams. The association has purchased two sets of goal nets and a successful season is anticipated.

WAIHI ASSOCIATION (From Our Own Correspondent) WAIHI, To-day. The hockey season opened in Waihi on Saturday with a cup game between Rovers and Ramblers on the Recreation Ground. Wet weather and a heavy ground prevented first-class hockey, but for a first-of-the-season game the majority of the players displayed capital form. Rovers had slightly the better of play throughout the game and ran out winners by three goals to two. The goal scorers were Stephenson (1). and McWilliams (2) for Ramblers, and A. McMahon (1) and Dabinett (1) for Rovers. Mi-. A. Sutherland was referee. PIAKO ASSOCIATION TE AROHA, To-day. The annual meeting of the Piako Hockey Association was held at Matamata last Friday evening. There was a good attendance, most districts sending in delegates. The.balance sheet showed a satisfactory credit balance. After some discussion it was decided to move the headquarters of the association from Matamata to Morrinsville.

It was decided to affiliate with the Auckland Association again this year and Messrs. L. C. Kent, R. Avery and Miss Meehan were appointed delegates. It was decided to play three rounds in the competition, the first series of matches to commence on May 4.
