MANUKAU SEASON ENDS

YACHT AND CRUISING CLUBS POINTS CUP TO SEA GNOME The Manukau Cruising Club and Manukau Yacht Club held combined races over the cruising club’s course on the Manukau Harbour on SatLirday, when the season was officially closed. Fifteen yachts were sent away in a bunch, the strong ebb tide assisting them down to the mark off Waikowhai, where the Sea Gnome had a long lead. Any slight breeze died away, and most of the boats drifted back to the Horn. The Sea Gnome had gradually worked her way up and rounded the top mark at 4.30 p.m. She now had a run out to the mark, and as she rounded it the wind blew from the south-west very strongly, and she ran home a winner at 5.12.45, a lap ahead of Waitere 11, Sylvia, and most of the others. The light conditions did not suit the Nyria, which retired with a round to go. The Aoma, which had challenged the Waiapu for the Fearon Challenge Cup. took advantage of the change of wind and carried on the course, eventually finishing with only five minutes to spare to finishing time. The results are as follow: Manukau Yacht Club.—Sea Gnome. Sea Gnome was the only yacht to finish. Manukau Cruising Club. Sea Gnome, 1; Aoma, 2.
