ELECTION OF OFFICERS
The annual meeting of the Opotiki branch of the New Zealand Farmere Union was held on Saturday. The president, Mr. G. S. Moody, presided oyer a good attendance of member? The -annual report, which gave a full account of the activities of the executive during the past year, was adopted. The balance-sheet’ showed a credit balance of £5. The election of officers resulted— President, Mr. G. S. Moody vice-presi-dent, Mr. A. Martin; secretary and treasurer, Mr. T. H. Pearson; auditor, Mr. J. T. Merry; general committee, Messrs. R. Looney, A. R. Small. G. Joblixi. M. Stevenson, A. F. Summer?. J. J. ifToody, J. Dunlop, G. E. Benneti, J. R. Jurd, Bridge, W. Bradshaw, M. Anderso-n, H. S. Holmes; delegates Lo the sub-provincial conference. Messrs. A. M*artin, W. Bradshaw: delegates to the annual provincial conference, Messrs. G. S. Moody and "W. Bradshaw. The following remits were carried for submission to the Auckland district conference:—That owing to the unfortunate position in which fanners’ freezing works axe placed then 5 should be only one board controlling meat and dairy produce; that a protest be entered against the personnel of the Transport Advisory Board, there not being a :.’air representation of the farming community; that all main roads be nationalised; that the Government be urg€*d to continue construction of the railway line from Taneatua to Opotiki. Discussion also took place as to the advisability of forming a co-operathrp bacon company, to take over a local company’s business. It was resolved to take a canvass to see if sufficient support was forthcoming before an: further steps were taken.
