ARTHUR HIRST, F.R.S.A.
LECTURE RECITAL TO-MORROW “Some people would tell us that the principles of art should be accepted in silence by the public, without knowing anything' of the inspiration from which they come, but this idea is the most dangerous thing that has ever helped to retard the progress of mankind.” This publicly expressed opinion of such a musical authority as Sir Henry Hadon provides the raison d’etre of the mission of Mr. Arthur Hirst, F.R.S.A., who has* now arrived in Auckland to give his famous lecturerecitals. Mr. Hirst possesses a comprehensive knowledge of music and composers, and is able to fascinate his audiences with his lectures on musical composition, explaining every thought with suitable illustrations on the piano, played by himself with exquisite touch and sympathy. Mr. Hirst will give his first lecturerecital in the Town Hall Concert Chamber to-morrow evening. There is to be an informal reception to Mr. Hirst this evening in the Lewis Eady Hall ,to which all music-lovers are invited.
DIXIELAND CABARET The Dixieland Cabaret will be open again this evening*, when dancing will be enjoyed until midnight to music by the famous Dixieland Jazz Band.
