PRISONER ESCAPES
CUTS WALL OF CELL MORE GAOL AFTER LIBERTY Press Association RAETIIiI, Saturday. In the Magistrate’s Court at Raetihi to-day, Sydney Joseph Sam ways, aged 27 years, was charged with escaping from the Waikune prison on Thursday. It was stated that the prisoner cut through the wall of his cell and went along the railway line, but was recaptured two hours later by Warder Quill, who was on the lookout for another prisoner, Walter Murphy, who escaped from the lloropito prison camp on Tuesday, and who is still at large. Sam ways pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 12 months* hard labour in addition to the sentence he is at present undergoing.
