Slowest of Slow Title Decided

SYDNEY CROWD ENTHUSIASTIC Two trotters, Bundarra Maid and Stirling John, the only runners in the unhoppled division of the Trial Divided Handicap at Victoria Park (Sydney), on Thursday of last week, collected £93 in prize money. Yet were the pair sold collectively to-day they would not bring a tenth of that money. The mere fact of their taking 4.144 to travel one and a-half miles, whereas they were handicapped to do 3.45, indicates that if their owners depend for their livelihoods on these performers, they will never get above starvation diet. Liked the Name Backers made Stirling John heavy odds on favourite, for what reason they themselves possibly had no idea. Presumably they liked the name better than Bundarra Maid, and when the favourite jumped away clear and Bundarra Maid broke this euphonius manner of picking winners certainly seemed a quick way to fortune. The crowd yelled its appreciation, rushing the enclosure fence to view at close quarters these equine champions of the slow, and advising the drivers to go out and race over again. It wasn’t trotting, but it was real comedy and as such was appreciated. TE AROHA TROTS ACCEPTANCES ON MONDAY Ti-otting Club is to be held at Te Aroha next Saturday. The appearance of the handicaps this week has stimulated the interest of trotting enthusiasts, and the fixture promises to be most popular. Acceptances for all events close at 5 p.m. on Monday next with the secretary, Mr. G. A. Bush, at Te Aroha, or with Messrs. Blomfield and Co., High Street. Auckland.
