RAILWAY BOOKSTALLS
DEPARTMENT MAY TAKE OVER SOURCE OF REVENUE (From Our Kesident Keporzer) AVELLINGTON, Friday. Though railway officers are reticent, it appears likely that the department will take control of all railway bookstalls at the beginning of July next. Leases of the railway bookstalls are let yearly, and tenders are called lor in the newspapers at the end of May. While there are many bookstalls in the Dominion, only those at main stations are a good investment for out-. siders, and for them there is sometimes keen competition. The new move is understood to be part of the policy of extracting all possible revenue from the railways. What is the intention of the department with respect to the smaller bookstalls it is impossible to say.
