FEES FOR DESTRUCTOR

NORTHCOTE’S LIABILITIES The Mayor, Mr. A. E. Greenslade, and Cr. A. T. Munn reported to the Northcote Borough Council last evening that at a meeting of the North Shore Destructor Joint Standing Committee they, as the council’s representatives on that committee, had urged that the account of £6l 15s 4d rendered as the proportion of working costs from September 13, 1928, to February 28, 1929, was inequitable, and had pointed out that in providing a proportionate share of the capital ebst for the provision of the destructor members of the council were under the impression that this was the limit of the borough’s compulsory liability, and that working expenses would be borne by the actual users of the destructor. They also said that the destructor had been working on material delivered solely by the Devonport and Takapuna Councils, and that their rubbish had not been deliver ede to the destructor, but had been utilised to fill in swampy areas in the borough and then covered with earth. The secretary stated the charge to the council was based on the agreement between the three councils, each of which, had a copy. The secretary of the Municipal Association of New Zealand wrote stating that they had agreed to make a test case of the question of half rates under the unimproved value rating where dwelling has been unoccupied. The Auckland Rugby League made application for the use of the Municipal Reserve for the purpose of playing football during the coming season. It was decided that the application be considered in conjunction with those from other codes. A committee was appointed to make arrangements for a service to be held in the evening on Ajjzac Day in the Palais Theatre. Notification was received that the council’s contribution toward the maintenance of the Auckland War Memorial Museum for the year ending March 31. 1930, was £6O 17s 6d. It was decided to nominate the Mayor as one of the three representatives of the contributing local bodies to the council of the Auckland Institute and Museum at the election to be held on April 26.
