COWS MAKE TO £ls WESTFIELD, 2.30 p.m. A comparatively short aggregate beef yarding of approximately 484 bead of fat cattle at Westfield today met with a very firm market. Ox beef made to 38s; best cow and Heifer beef to 34s 6d. A yarding of approximately 250 head of steers was made up of good quality largely of handy weight cattle drawn from most parts of the province. No good quality lines came from the Bay of Plenty. B. Heed, Waerenga, was responsible for some of the best steers seen in the yards for some weeks in a line of 14 bis-framed exceptionally well-finished cattle, which met with keen competition at up to £l6 15s, one pen going K. E. Stott, Birkenhead, and another to Lee and Co., Otahuhu, at that iigure. The line averaged £ls 19s. Eighteen choice handy weight steers on account R. C. Morgan, Matamata, made up to £l4 2s 6d. and averaged *l3 16s Id. Sixteen big-framed prime steers on account the Matarawa Land Company, Tokoroa. made to £l6 10s, and averted £ls 14s. The top-priced pen went to T. Baster, Ponsonby. Fifteen solid -framed prime steers on account Ring Bros.. Hinuera. averaged *ls 8s lOd. Sixteen steers on account J. H. Eyre, Onewhero, made to £ls 10s and averaged £l3 16s 6d. A specially choice line of baby beef on account of a local grazier went to E. and W. Hellaby for £ll 12s 6d. The highest price realised in the cow and heifer section for some weeks was obtained for a specially choice prime bne of heavy cattle on account T. Bottomley, Tirau; 17 young cows and neifers on account this vendor made *ls, the top-priced pen going to G. F. Smith, Mount Albert. A. Miller, Hamilton, had another line of extra 2noice young cattle forward from his Faerenga property. These met with competition at up to £l2 10s. The greater part of the cow and neifer offerng was drawn from the dairy herds of the province and showed outstanding quality. Extra heavy prime steers made to 15s; medium. £l3 2s 6d to £l4 2s 6d; Oght and small, from £lO. Extra heavy Prime young cows and heifers, to £ls; heavy prime. £9 2s 6d to £l2; me2»um. £7 10s to £9; light, old and unfinished, from £4 10s. A email yarding of calves met witn v ery firm competition. There was a shortage of well-finished mediumheight vealers and a decidedly bigger Percentage of small calves, which *°uld have difficulty in parsing the Kpuier at the works. Top price of he day was secured for a special line from the North, the best of 'vbich went to J. Rowe, Newmarket, for *• 6a.
