TO END DEATH PENALTY
BILL BEFORE COMMONS READ A FIRST TIME British OJficial Wireless RUGBY, Thursday. In the House of Commons to-day Commander J. M. Ken worthy, Labour member for Kingston-upoii-llull Central, introduced a Bill to substitute imprisonment for life for the death penalty. He said it was supported by members of all the parties. There was always a chanec of a mistake in a murder trial. He instanced the case of Oscar Slater. It would be better for 100 g-uilty persons to escape the gallows than for one innocent person to be judicially murdered. The Bill was read a first time by 119 votes to 18.
