FOOLISH GIRL LOSES LEG
DESIRED SLIMMER ANKLES A HAZARDOUS OPERATION (United Service) PARIS, Saturday. A Paris business girl, who was about to be married, desired to have slimmer ankles. She consulted a doctor, who recommended surgical treatment. A surgeon said a successful operation was feasible, and was permitted to perform it. He removed a narrow strip of flesh from one of the girl’s legs. The anaesthetic failed, however, and the patient was fully conscious during the operation. After the wound had been stitched and the girl had been sent to bed she began to suffer agony. Her condition necessitated the postponement of the operation on the other leg. Her foot began to blacken, and doctors advised that its amputation was essential to save her life. The girl’s fiance was hurriedly called, and a marriage ceremony was performed at the bedside. She dulyrecovered, and is now suing the surgeon for £4,000 compensation.
