CANADA TO AUSTRALIA
BETTER SHIPPING SERVICE STATE SUBSIDY SOUGHT (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) (United Service) VANCOUVER, Thursday. Replying to a request from a delegation of British Columbia lumbermen for a subsidised .steamship service to Australia, the Federal Minister of Trade and Commerce, Mr. James Malcolm, to day said the request conformed .with the policy of his department, and he promised favourable consideration “within the not-distant future.” Mr. Malcolm said the Government was unable to give a direct subsidy to any steamer for any special trade, although it could specify the type of vessel required for lumber aDd other commodities.
