SHOOTING AT PENROSE

REGIMENTAL CONTESTS END HIGH SCORES REGISTERED About 400 competitors took part in j the No. 1 regimental district rifle shoot- j ing contests which ended at Penrose on Saturday. Although the entries were nearly i 200 fewer than those for the previous j year's competitions, the record number j of 21 teams competed in the Vickers ' and the Lewis guns sections. In the rifle competitions there were also 21 teams. Entrants came from an area stretching between Swanson and Otahuhu. In the opinion of Major A. C. Finnis, officer in charge, the scoring was high, and the performances satisfactory. Second-Lieutenant K. J. Duncan (C.R.0.) shot well in the rifle section and Corporal W. Tongue (C.R.0.) in the A’ickers gun section. Corporal W. Bracegirdle, of the 22nd Company, won the silver cup. presented by Mr. A. Kohn, for the first time in artisan cadet shooting. Sergeant L. C. Rice, of the Auckland Grammar School, won the Kohn gold medal for senior cadet shooting.
