PARNELL GETS FOURPOINTER OVER VARSITY
McCOY’S TRICKY BOWLING With four wickets down for 41 Varsity continued its first innings at Eden Park on Saturday, in response to Parnell's first effort of 208. Chiefly as a result of McCoy's bowiing, the student batsmen were all out for 04, and then followed on to bo again dismissed in tho afternoon—this unio for 101 runs. Thus the last team on the competition ladder scored a weil-merited fourpointer over the top team. Especially at tho latter end of Varsity's first knock, McCoy was most dangerous. The end came somewhat abruptly when he beat McDougal all the way, and then with his next delivery skittled the last man in, Simpson. McCoy’s figures for the first in-' mugs read four for 23. lie began the follow on sensationally by capturing the wickets of Dunning, Smeeton and fcjchnauer, at a cost of only six runs,
and with tho score-board reading,
GOODSIR ON THE SCENE The advent of Garrard, who put up a stuhborn effort in a useful but unavailing attempt to stay tho tide for long, saw runs scored more freely olf McCoy. Ills final figures for the second innings were, 4—31, making an averago for the match of eight for 54 —a very fine performance, for the most part on a wicket which should have suited batsmen rather than bowlers. it was then, however, that Goodsir came oil the scene and finished up the work McCoy had begun. He cleanbowled Bush, Pearson and McDougal. his figures for the innings being five wickets for 28 runs—the matclie’s second great bowling performance. Little else marked Varsity’s second venture, beyond Gee’s stubborn 28 not out, and Bush’s 18. Details: PARNELL First Innings 20S VARSITY First Innings.
