MT. EDEN ROADS

MANY IMPROVEMENTS £71,000 SPENT TO DATE Portion of Boston Road is to be closed temporarily by the Mount Eden Borough Council, and will oe reopened with a concrete and bitumen surface. This is portion of the extensive roadway improvements which Mount Eden has effected in the past two years, during which it has been working on a programme to permanently surface all the roads in the borough, all the secondary roads being in bitumen. The surfacing of Boston Street is a welcome step. The City Council concreted its portion several months ago, and the remainder has since been in wretched condition. It will have a concrete strip in the middle and bitumen sides. The improvements are being carried out from funds secured in a £IIO,OOO loan a couple of years ago, £85,000 of this having been allocated to street improvements. About £20,000 remains. Recently Mount Pleasant Road and Prospect Terraco were added to the list of those completed, and work is now' proceeding on Woodside and Fairlie Roads. The workmen will go on to Brentwood Avenue and Landscape Road. The latter is now being reformed in preparation for surfacing. In addition to roading, the borough i 3 doing a great deal of drainage w'ork A big sewer in Balmoral Road and another in Douglas Road are well under way and others are nearing completion.
