RAVES WHEN DRUNK
NEW LYNN MAN IN COURT ATTACKED BUS-DRIVER / , “He is a decant man as a general rule, but becomes raving mad when drunk.” Thus described by Sub-Inspector McCarthy, George Sutton, a labourer, aged 47, pleaded guilty at the Police Court this morning to being found drunk in New Lynn and assaulting Peter Barrett. Mr McCarthy understood that Sutton had been drunk in a bus on Saturday. He had tried to pick a quarrel with the driver, who had done all in his power to placate the man. Sutton had left the bus, but suddenly seeing red, charged back in again and assaulted Mr. Barrett. Offering to report to the police and put himself under the care of the New Lynn constable, Barrett was fined 5s for drunkenness and £1 on the assault. His offer to take out a prohibition order was accepted.
