FIRE AT NEW LYNN
BOARDING-HOUSE GUTTED EARLY MORNING OUTBREAK Fires almost completely gutted an eight-roomed boarding house in Totara Avenue, New Lynn, at about two o'clock this morning. The house was owned by Mr. W. Parker, of the New Zealand Brick Tile and Pottery Company, Limited, and was occupied by Mr. E. I. Morphy, who carried on the business of the boarding house. At the time of the fire there were 12 boarders in the house. The Avondale Fire Brigade received the alarm at 2.19. However, by the time they reached the house the fire was burning furiously and they were only able to save one room. In the meantime the boarders had been busy and had saved a good deal of the furniture and contents. The insurances on the house are unknown, but the contents were insured for £250 in the Guardian Office.
