STRANGE FISH LANDED
RESEMBLANCE TO STINGRAY (From. Our Own Correspondent) RUSSELL, To-day. A strange fish was caught on a hook by Mr. Keney McLean when fishing from a launch in deep watgr off Cape Erett. The fish is approximately ISin. in length and about 12in. in width. At first glanqe jt might be mistaken for a skate, but there are several small features that differ, especially in the mouth colouring, which is pink on the underside and a greeny grey at the back, with two deep nostrils set fairly close. All closely resemble either the skate or stingray, though the tail differs from that of the latter fish. The catch apparently belongs to the ray family.
