TIES AND SOCKS
BUYING PRESENTS FOR HUSBANDS COLOURS SUITABLE FOR MENFOLK It women next Christmas succeed in presenting their silently suffering menfolk with neckties of unwearably and unbearably bright colours, it will be a tribute to their sieuthing instincts, for a gaudy tie is going to be hard to find. Jazz stripes and fanatic patterns are slipping off to join the dodo and other dead things; in their place will be seen neat and tasteful styles, ill pastel and the qiueter. shades. Some of the leading mercers are the authority for the statement that men are exhibiting more taste in selecting their wardrobe. Colour has become an important problem; and colour blending a matter for deep thought. Match Your Tie No longer is a tvell-dressed man content to let tie, socks, shirt and handkerchiefs shriek a discordant chorus. Tie and handkerchief sets are becoming more popular, although many more of these are bought by women customers as gifts or “on behalf of,” than by the men themselves. It is now by no means uncommon for a man to buy half-a-dozen ties in a fashionable mercer’s, and then set out to choose a pair of socks to match each tie. Knitted Styles Again Silk knitted ties show promise of staging a return season. The black knitted type of hallowed memory, however, is mostly reserved for funerals these days; new models show colourful effects in many tones.
