BUSHMAN’S LAPSE
STOLE LEAD PIPING INQUIRIES TO BE MADE Tearing lead piping from the wall and damaging permanent fittings was how Donald Alexander amused himself in an empty house recently. This morning, at the Police Court, Alexander, a bushman, aged 48. was charged with stealing lead piping valued at 14s from John Henry Hannan; coppei* cable valued at £2 2s, the property of persons unknown, and a wallet valued at 5s 6d, and containing £8 10s, the property of Thomas Trow. Alexander pleaded guilty to the first charge and admitted receiving the other articles. He also admitted causing damage to the extent of £1 on the premises owned by John Henry Hannan. Chief-Detective Hammond depremerely received the articles. “It is cated Alexander’s assertion that he had easy for him to say that he was given the stuff by Jack Smith, whom he has never seen before,” he said. Mr. Hammond said that Alexander toi*e lead piping from the wall of an empty house and sold it. The money was taken from a coat hanging up in a billiards saloon. It was difficult to identify the cable, as it had been cut into small lengths, but there was little doubt that it belonged to the Power Board. . , ... Alexander was remanded until Thursday for sentence, so that inquiries could be made about him.
