TO MAKE MINES SAFE

FRANCO-BRITISH RESEARCH CO-OPERATION PLAN British Official Wireless RUGBY. Sunday. The British Government recently made proposals to the French Government tor a scheme of co-operation between the official organisations in the two countries engaged in research work directed toward securing greater safety in coal mining. These proposals have been cordially accepted, and the scheme is now to be put into operation. On the British side the technical arrangements will he in the hands of the Safety in Mines Research Board. They will include a full tuterchange of Information acquired by research into the prevention of accidents and experience in the two countries, including unpublished as well as published reports. The respective research organisations will mutually agree as to which problems each could best study alone, and which could more effectively he studied jointly. By this means it should be possible to save money and to expedite the work. There will probably also be an occasional interchange of skilled research workers for work which requires special experience.
