VESSEL GOES ASHORE
SUVA CABLE BEACON ADRIFT Heavy seas twb or three days ago drove ashore the auxiliary vessel Waicuru, which was anch’ored off Takapuna Beach. The vessel struck and sent adrift a cable-beacon before stranding. The beacon was one of two which marked out the position of the shore end of the Auckland-Suva cable. The impact snapped the beacon off at the base and both vessel and beacon are hard and fast on the beach. The only damage of consequence to the Waiouru is a snapped bowsprit. The auxiliary is owned by Mr. C. Hansen,, of Motukiti Island.
