WAR PENSIONS
POSITION IN AUSTRALIA APPEAL BOARD WANTED An inquiry into the New Zealand system of conducting war pension appeals is to be made by Mr. L. A. Robb, vice-president of the New South Wales branch of the Returned Soldiers' and Sailors’ Imperial League of Australia. Mr. Robb arrived in Auckland on the Mahe-no this afternoon. He is on holiday, but while in New Zealand he intends to study the Operations of the War Pensions Appeal Board and report to his league. “At present there is no appeal board for Australian war pensioners,” he told The Sun. “It is greatly needed for. at present, men who are turned down are obliged to make their appeal to the same body. It is like appealing from Caesar to Caesar.” He added that the board had been promised by Mr. Bruce, who claimed that it would be the best in the world, as it would be modelled on those in New Zealand, Canada and Great Britain, and would profit by the experiences and mistakes in each case.
