In the Market Place
ORANGES IN DEMAND HEAVY VEGETABLE SUPPLIES Orange sold well on the City Markets to-day, and specially selected Island varieties brought high prices. There are heavy supplies of most vegetables, with a fair inquiry. THE market has been glutted with lettuce for three weeks, and the quantities coming forward have not decreased. To-day there was an additional inrush as a result of the Labour Day break. There is a good inquiry' for apples. Strawberries made their first appearance to-day in small quantities. Local passions and tree tomatoes are now coming forward in larger quantities. Fiji pines, loquats, Canadian apples and Californian grapes are offering, and the inquiry' for this time of the year, is up to sellers’ expectations. Dessert pears have dropped in value.
