AUCKLAND PIONEER
EIGHTIETH BIRTHDAY Devonport is the home of many of Auckland's pioneers, among them being Mrs. Albert Edward Glover, whose parents, Mr. and Mrs. McGuire, reached Auckland in the middle ’forties. Their first home was a raupo whare, situated at the corner of Wyndham Street. Subsequently Mr. McGuire was in business at Maraetai, Coromandel, and other gulf towns. Mr. Glover, then a young man, running a tradin'r schooner, met and married Miss I Juire, who is now celebrating her 80th birthday. Mr. Glover engaged in trading in boots, storekeeping, goldmining, hotel-keeping in Auckland, and many other commercial enterprises. He was for many years on the Auckland City Council and later M.P. for Auckland Central.
