Worship is Solution for Church Wrangles

DEAN GIVES ADVICE WAIKATO DIFFERENCES (THE SUN’S Parliamentary Repor'er.) HAMILTON. To-day. “The only solution to the present problems which beset the parish is to attend church regularly, not to get something out of it. but to givo something to God," Slid Dean Barnett, referring to schism in the Anglican Church at St. Peter’s Cathedral last evening. The preacher said that flßw the churchgoers exclaimed. “See how these Christians love one another," and one of the most disastrous truths that Christians had to face to-day was the fact that they were constantly fighting among themselves. They centred their activities on matters entirely alienated from real worship, exchanged hard words, and became heated over trifles, and even the parson did not escape criticism. ‘“The whole trouble is,” continued the dean, "we are missing the point and have not reached the fundamental basis of Christian worship.” He added: “When we have managed to settle down, as I hope we will. I trust we shall truly build up Christ’s Kingdom in this town.” The dean outlined two forms of religion—corporate, which Anglo-Cath-olics exploited as giving the sacraments doctrinal significance, and personal, which evangelicals favoured. He saw no reason why antipathy should exist between the exponents of two forms. Recently special prayer has been offered in the cathedral invoking the Deity to bless the church and its adherents and to assist them to work in greater harmony and to accept the means of worship offered in the services. When giving the notices out the dean urged all communicants to attend the bishop’s meetings on Wednesday, and to be candid in expressing their opinions.
