TRAIN STRIKES GIG
FARMER HURT, HORSE KILLED SLIGHTLY DEAF DRIVER Press Association. WAIMATE, To-day. While Alfred Quigley, a farmer, of Morven, was driving a gig over the railway crossing near Waimate, the vehicle was run into by a train, the horse being killed instantly and Quigley receiving severe head wounds. ~ He was picked up unconscious on the grass a few yards from the crossing. Air. Quigley, who is 80 years old, is slightly deaf and rather shortsighted. The view of approaching trains is unobstructed for some distance from the crossing. Air. Quigley was taken to hospital where his condition is improving.
