APPOINTMENT OF REFEREES IT is not yet clear why the two most important major League fixtures in Auckland this season are to be controlled by the same man in each case. Mr. 1,.. Bull is certainly one of the best League referees in New Zealand, and few will cavil at the decision to entrust him with the inter-island match on Saturday. But there are other good League referees in Auckland, and it is to be noted that Mr. W. Mincham, for instance, is a line umpire in the First Test match, which Mr. Bull will also control. Many League followers are asking why Mr. Mincham was not appointed to referee this match.
