NEW ZEALAND TEAM SELECTION METHODS CRITICISED CANTERBURY VIEWS Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, To-day. Strong criticism of the methods of selecting the Dominion Davis Cup team was uttered at a meeting of the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association last evening. A motion was passed recommending that in future the question of representation should not be left in the hands of the Management Committee of the New Zealand Association, but should be decided by the association as a whole, the affiliated bodies being given an opportunity of expressing their opinions. The chairman of the Canterbury Association, Mr. W. N. Seay, said: "The time has come when New Zealand should enter an official team in the Davis Cup contest. If this were done it would do a great deal to improve the standard of tennis in the Dominion. Why did New Zealand withdraw from the Davis Cup after having defeated Portugal? No one knows. We have never had a word from the New Zealand Association or from any other source. If we are to compete in the cup competition an official tfam should be sent.”
