LIMERICK LEAVES FOR RANDWICK

EULALIE RETIRES FROM FROM RACING

RICCARTON JOTTINGS (Special to THE SUN) CHRISTCHURCH. Thursday. Limerick, accompanied by Arikiwai, Gay Crest, Roserea and Lighthearie •; left by this evening's ferry steamer for Wellington en route to Rand wick, where he will make another assault on the rich spring weight-for-age races. For weeks past Limerick has been getting through plenty of serviceable tasks on tlie Riccarton tracks, and in his final sprints he has acquitted himself excellently. Usually a sluggish worker, he has been displaying much dash in his work and has satisfied his trainer. lie bears a much more appearance now than when he left on his last trip to Australia, and he is improving to such an extent that it may not be too much to say that he will be better than ever in the coming season.

Perhaps tlie unbeaten Mollison will be his chief danger in weight-for-age events, and no doubt some Sydneysiders will pin their faith to the Victorian youngster, especially if he comes through his early three-year-old classics satisfactorily. Before his victory in the Sires’ Produce Stakes it is stated that Mollison’s trainer remarked that he would support the two-year-old to beat the best Australian horses of all ages at weight-for-age over a mile. This is a broad claim, but there is no doubt that Mollison is an out and oat champion, and his meeting with Limerick will be eagerly awaited. Sick One of the Party Unfortunately Arikiwai has displayed symptoms of unsoundness lately, but after cooling down after his gallops he appears to walk soundly enough. If he stands up to his training it is almost certain that he will pick up a middle distance handicap on the trip.

Roserea, a half-brother by Rossen- I dale to Limerick, is a candidate for j Derby honours. He has greatly impressed in the two races in which he has started, and if he trains on well at , Randwick he may make hifc presence felt in some of the handicaps. He claims important classic and if he goes to Victoria to contest the Caulfield Guineas it is likely that Limerick also will make the trip. Gay Crest, who races in the ownership of F. D. Jones, is a promising sort, and it is quite on the cards that he will pay his way on the trip. Light- i hearted, the other member of the team, who was recently purchased by 1 F. D. Jones on behalf of an Australian sportsman, will change stables on his arrival at Sydney, and will do his racing at the pony meetings. The Absurd filly Eulalie was shipped to Wanganui with the brood mares Adour and Sungleam on Tuesday, and the trio, who are owned by Mr. G. D. Greenwood, will be mated with Limond. Eulalie. who comes from a renowned i family, is a three-year-old daughter of j Absurd and Eulogy, and thus ranks as i a full blood relation to such notable 1

j celebrities of the turf as Humbuy | Fulsome, Epitaph and Homage. St also is a half-sister to the brillian; Commendation. Eulalie proved herj self one of the speediest fillies that ever raced in tlie Dominion. Sungleam, by Sutala from Sungtar, who last year was mateef with Limond is again to visit that sire. Gokta Armour, who scored a double victory i ,tt the C.J.C. Easter meeting, is 4 daughter of Sungleam. Adour. by Danube from l’erle d’Or, is known as | the dam of Doucement, Solifonn, Oph.1 and Shall mar.
