This was on the motion of the Mayor, Mr. G. Baildon, after the letter had been read to the council. Seconding the motion, Cr. A. J. Stallworthy expressed sorrow that Cr. Murray was absent, as he was thereby denied the right of expressing his feelThe letter, however, was couched in such “vulgar, irrelevant and indecent terms” that he agreed it should not be received. “I do not think Cr. Murray wrote that letter,” he said. “It reads to me liko the ravings of an irresponsible lunatic”—here the Mayor murmured ’•Order”—“with some legal training, but with no respect for his profession.” (Laughter.) The motion was carried.
