NEW REGENT

“SOMETHING ALWAYS HAPPENS”

Something different in the way of motion pictures will. be presented at the New Regent Theatre this evening. This is Esther Ralston’s latest story, “Something Always Happens,” which is hailed as a mystery comedy, being filled with eerie action, along with an abundance of laughter. The plot centres around a girl seeking adventure, being tired of a cut-and-dried existence in a staid old English household. She enters a deserted, haunted house and from the moment she sets foot in it, things start to happen. Ghosts walk, chairs roll away, doors slam without human assistance, mysterious phosphorescent eyes blink and sinister faces peer at her. Miss Ralston plays the role of the American girl, Diana Mallory, who, when in England, is driven to desperation through lack of excitement at the home of her fiance, Roderick, Lord Keswick, only son and heir of the Earl of Rochester. Roderick’s father shows her the famous Rochester ruby, which will be hers after the wedding. Diana goes on strike and demands some thrills, her first coming when she learns that Chang-Tzo, a notorious Chinese outlaw, is after the ruby. From then on she gets all the excitement she wants. Neil Hamilton plays the role of the fiance. Chief in the big supporting cast are Sojin, the well-known Oriental actor; Hoscoe Karns, of “Beau Sabreur” fame, and Charles Sellon, who made a name for himself on the stage. An excellent supporting programme is also provided and a special musical accompaniment has been prepared by Ml-. Maurice Guttridge for the Reagent Operatic Orchestra. An exceptional attraction is provided at the New Regent this evening in the appearance of Dawn Assheton and Laszlo Schwartz, concert artistes of world renown. Mr. Laszlo Schwartz is a Hungarian violinist and composer, whose interpretations of the wistful Magyar airs have made him famous. His playing should not be missed by any violinist. Miss Dawn Assheton, the worldfamed English coloratura soprano, will be heard in a selection from her repertoire of operatic arias, folk-songs and character songs. She will wear appropriate national costume. The programme that has been arranged for this evening includes a traditional Polish folk-song, American plantation song, the Maori song, “Waiata Poi,” and a Spanish flower song.
