The hearing was continued to-day of the case in which Silas Young Mating is charged with corruptly receiving £10,600 in connection with the power-house contract between Babcock and Wilcox, of London, and the late Sydney City Council. Inspector Mackay gave details of his investigations and his conversations with Maling in New Zealand. Arthur Henry Albert recounted an interview with Maling, in which Maling asked him to allow certain moneys from England to pass through his bank account. A sum of £10,600 came, and witness got none of it. He had never received any acknowledgment of the payment of the money to Maling.
