BRITISH OFFICIAL FIGURES INCREASE OF 153,000 IN YEAR British Official "Wireless. Reed. Noon. RUGBY, Wed. The rapidly-increasing number of motor-vehicles on British roads is shown by the official figures published to-day. Within one year the number increased by 153,000 to 1,909,000. Nearly £20,000,000 was paid in horse-power tax in the six months ending May 31, an increase of nearly £5,000,000 compared with the corresponding period two years ago. It is announced that Sir Arthur Griffith Boscawen will be chairman of the Royal Commission to inquire into the problems created by the growth of road traffic. The purpose of the commission is to report what measures should be adopted for the better regulation and control of the existing means of transport, and to co-ordin-ate their working and deevlopment.
