It was resolved to commence at once the building of a members’ stand to cost about £2,000. Mr. J. D. Jones has presented a cup for the winner of the next Whangarei Cup race. Officers ’were elected as follows: Patron, Mr. W. Jones, M.P.; president, Mr. R. G. Hosking (who has held office continuously since 1921); vicepresident, Mr. L. W. Nelson; the retiring stewards, Messrs. J. N. McCarroll, Jas. Mac Kay, A. J. Murdoch, A. McDonald and A. D. Jack, were reelected, and Messrs. A. J. M. Mac Kay, L. H. Weston and T. A. Sprinter For The Cup The Kilbroney gelding Panther ran an excellent race in the Stewards’ Handicap on the opening day of the Wellington Racing Club’s winter meeting, and was beaten only in the last few strides by Taboo. He was not started again at the meeting, but his connections have continued his engagement in the Winter Cup; so apparently he is to contest the important Riccarton event next month.
