NURMI’S RECORD BEATEN
FRENCHMAN’S FEAT OLYMPIC PRELIMINARIES (United P A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian and N.Z. Press Association.) (United Service) PARIS, Monday. Ah athletic championship meeting was held to-day at Colombes. It provided an interesting review of French athletics in view of the Olympic Games. Da Doumegue won the 1,500 metres event in Smin 52 l-ssec. This beat Nurmi’s world record by 2-sth of a second. Feger won the 400 metres in 48 4-ssec., beating the 19-year-old French record. The runners in the 5,000 and 10,000 metres races, however, were not brilliant. This caused the critics to suggest that France should limit her efforts at Amsterdam to events in which she has goon chances. Sempe and Viel put up moderate performances in the hurdles events.
At the women’s pre-Olympic meeting six records were beaten or equalled. Mdlle. Radideau equalled the world’s record for the 100 metres in 12 2-ssec. Mdlle. Neveu covered 800 metres in 2min 26 2-ssec.
